The TEAM Charter School student, parent, staff and community are passionately committed to providing a nurturing, loving, educational environment serving Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade children.

The TEAM mission is "To cultivate healthy bodies, minds, and spirits based on compassion and love for all humanity." The academy is committed to achieving individual and community success and teamwork by bridging cultural norms from a variety of diverse and often misunderstood settings. Emphasis will be on integrating into all subject matter, a non-biased, multicultural, socially just, quality environment embracing the rich cultural diversity of our country, leading to successful student learning outcomes.

Distinctive Features & Educational Program

TEAM Charter School believes that the learning community should be centered on four major themes:

• Access to rigorous curriculum

• A culture and climate conducive to the learning needs of all students

• High expectations for all students to achieve to their full potential

• Teaching strategies that engage all students in learning

Curriculum and Instructional Design

The academic program at TEAM Charter School will prepare its students to meet or exceed the performance standards set forth by the California Department of Education. Our curriculum follows the newly established Common Core Standards and is not unlike any other elementary school in the State of California. TEAM Charter School’s curriculum and instructional design also includes the following pedagogical practices:

• Collaborative Work Environment
• Culturally Responsive Pedagogy
• Parent Involvement
• Authentic Assessment
• Structured English Language Learner Supports

Students at TEAM Charter School may be grouped with more than one grade level.  With mixed age groupings, children have the flexibility to move at their own pace. The students are free to learn as much as they possibly can.  Students may have the opportunity to interact with more than one teacher providing your child with an especially rich educational environment.

Assessment

By developing personal learning goals and objectives, each student will create their own learning experience that is based on the State content standards yet relevant to his/her own life, experiences, and future plans. To ensure that students meet the School’s benchmarks while achieving these goals, all students will be assessed upon their entrance to the School and at the beginning of each school year thereafter. These assessments will take the form of multiple choice/true false tests in subject matter content, written tests of subject matter and affective content, interview evaluations, and surveys that evaluate socio-emotional strength and wellness.

The School shall meet all statewide standards and conduct the student assessments required pursuant to Education Code Section 60605, and any other statewide standards authorized in statute, or student assessments applicable to students in non-charter public schools. School administrators will oversee the administration of all applicable state-mandated assessments such as the SBAC and CELDT.

Each grade level will also have specific assessments, projects, and targets to measure student achievement and progress towards desired outcomes in each of the content standard strands. The following list describes the assessment tools the School will employ to measure expected outcomes. This list is not all encompassing, and teachers may infuse other forms of assessment, as they deem appropriate. At a minimum, all students will be assessed using the following methods, which are appropriate for all core and non-core subjects:

• Portfolios
• Reflection/Math Journals
• Ongoing Teacher Assessments
• Rubrics
• Performance Exams
• Written Exams
• Oral/Verbal Exams
• Student Conduct Records
• Participation Records
• Report Cards/Progress Reports
• State Standardized Tests
• Developmental Reading Assessment
• Benchmark Assessments

English Language Learners

English Language Learners are provided with access to well-articulated, standards-based core curriculum. In the Structured English Immersion and Mainstream English settings, the core instruction occurs in English, with the use of Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) strategies and some primary language support as needed and feasible.

The School will meet all applicable legal requirements for English Learners as it pertains to annual notification to parents, student identification, placement, program options, EL and core content instruction, teacher qualifications and training, re-classification to fluent English proficient status, monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness, and standardized testing requirements. The School will implement policies to assure proper placement, evaluation, and communication regarding English Learners and the rights of students and parents.

The School will administer the home language survey upon a student’s initial enrollment into the Charter School (with enrollment forms).

Special Education & Students with Disabilities

The School shall comply with all applicable State and Federal Laws in serving students with disabilities, including, but not limited to, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act 504”), the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) and the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Improvement Act (“IDEIA”).

sponsible for its compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”).
All facilities of the School shall be accessible for all students with disabilities in accordance with the ADA. The School recognizes its legal responsibility to ensure that no qualified person with a disability shall, on the basis of disability, be excluded from participation, be denied benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program of the School. Any student who has an objectively identified disability, which substantially limits a major life activity including but not limited to learning, is eligible for accommodation by the School.
